New Ambulance for St John Ambulance Wyndham
16 May 07
A new Mercedes ambulance has just hit the roads in and around Wyndham, dramatically changing the appearance of St John Ambulance in town.
The new look green and white livery on the ambulance has been designed to match internationally accepted colour coding for health emergencies and will
eventually replace the once familiar black and white ambulances in Wyndham and indeed throughout WA.
The new ambulance provides a greater level of comfort and safety to both patients and ambulance officers. It is also a more fuel efficient vehicle, with lower maintenance costs.
St John Ambulance Wyndham Chairperson, Mr Kerry Lines, said the new vehicle is a great addition to the Ambulance Sub Centre's resources.
"We are extremely lucky in Wyndham as we have a community and a Shire Council that are fully supportive of all our services and fundraising.
"It is thanks to the generosity of our town's people that we have been able to purchase this new ambulance. I'd particularly like to thank Lotterywest who have helped immensely in allowing us to be able to purchase this ambulance for the Wyndham community.
"The Mercedes Ambulance has far better sound proofing than the old ones, so it will be much quieter for our patients on long road trips. The fuel efficiency is also a big improvement, allowing us to be able to travel from Wyndham to Kununurra and return without having to worry about our fuel situation," Kerry said.
St John Ambulance Wyndham will retain its older Ford diesel ambulance and decommission an even older Ford petrol ambulance as a result of the recently acquired 316 Mercedes ambulance.
The next project for the volunteer group will be to arrange assistance for the repair of the Sub Centre's roof, which has been leaking water during the past two wet seasons, resulting in ceiling damage.
