Wyndham Police sub-district comprises 120,000 square kilometres in the East Kimberley. The terrain is rugged and sparse. It is populated by approximately 2,000 people, of whom approximately 60% are Aboriginal. The townsite has a population of 800 people, while 16 isolated Aboriginal communities have a population of 1,200 people. Two larger communities are Kalumburu and Oombulgurri, which have populations in excess of 400 people.
Wyndham Police conduct regular isolated patrols and attend all stations and remote Aboriginal communities. These patrols are conducted by vehicle in the dry months and aircraft in the wet months.
